Notes

The disciples completely missed the meaning of the warning given by Jesus (8:15). They forgot that, because Jesus was with them, their lack of bread did not matter.

This story of the journey across the Sea of Galilee reflects on the greatness of Jesus, shown in the two feeding miracles. It also emphasizes the disciples’ lack of understanding.

They do not see, hear, or understand because their hearts are hardened (not open to learning; see 4:9–20; 6:52).
