Notes

God promised to make David's name great (2 Samuel 7:9), but David wanted to honor God's name. David knew that his family line would have no value unless God remained the center of the people’s praise.

David responded with prayer to God’s promise that his family would rule as kings for many generations. In his prayer, he repeatedly acknowledged that God alone is the true king and Sovereign Lord.

David was not happy just making a tent for the ark (2 Samuel 6:17). He wanted to build a house for God.
