Notes

For it has been granted to you … to suffer for Him: What the world sees as shameful, Christians see as an honor because it is for Christ. It honors him.

Paul encourages the Christians in Philippi to live in a way that honors the gospel (see Ephesians 4:1; Colossians 1:10; 1 Thessalonians 2:12). He especially encourages them to stay strong and faithful, even when they face persecution.
