Notes

Do you still not understand?: This question suggests there will be a future time when they will truly understand. Mark's audience knew that the resurrection of Jesus would help the disciples understand the identity and power of Jesus (see, for example, Acts 4:23–31).

This story of the journey across the Sea of Galilee reflects on the greatness of Jesus, shown in the two feeding miracles. It also emphasizes the disciples’ lack of understanding.

They do not see, hear, or understand because their hearts are hardened (not open to learning; see 4:9–20; 6:52).
