Notes

Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters: Just as Jesus rebuked demons and diseases (4:39, 41), he showed his authority by rebuking the sea (compare 2 Samuel 22:16; Psalms 18:15; 104:7; 106:9; Isaiah 50:2; Nahum 1:4).

When Jesus calmed the windstorm, he showed his control over the elements. This act suggested he was God, since God controls the seas (see Psalms 65:7; 89:9; 104:6–7; 107:23–32).
