Notes

temple officers: These were leaders within the temple’s own security force. The temple had its own police force to keep order and protect the sacred area.

The religious leaders who had been plotting against Jesus (see 19:47) found their opportunity when Judas Iscariot approached them with an offer to betray Jesus.
