Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.

Notes

little flock: God is the shepherd of his people (Psalm 23; Jeremiah 13:17; Ezekiel 34; Zechariah 10:3). Israel’s leaders were also known as shepherds. The prophets criticized them for harming or neglecting their people ("flock"; Ezekiel 34; Zechariah 10:3).

After Jesus warns against greed (not being content), he teaches about living in dependence on God (12:13–21). The disciples of Jesus were to focus on God’s kingdom and his purpose in this world rather than being obsessed with possessions.
