Translations
Modern
Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
Traditional
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Literal
Yet He knows the way with me; He has tested me, and like gold I will come forth.
Latin
Ipse vero scit viam meam, et probavit me quasi aurum quod per ignem transit.
Original
Hebrew
English
Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
Notes
has tested me: Job did not want the kind of punishment that would make him clean as through "a refiner’s fire" (Proverbs 17:3; Zechariah 13:9; Malachi 3:2–3). He wanted a test to show he was already as pure as gold and did not need to change his life (Job 22:23).
