All curses mentioned in the Law of Moses are summarized in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 27–28. When the people entered the covenant, they promised to obey. They called down curses on themselves if they failed (see Exodus 24:7–8; Joshua 8:34–35).
To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness: God planned the exile to judge unfaithful Israel (Daniel 9:11–14). God had warned them many times that it would occur (see Deuteronomy 28:36–37, 49–68).
Daniel prayed for his people, knowing that Jerusalem's seventy years of desolation were about to end. His prayer is similar to those of:
Solomon (1 Kings 8:14–61),
Ezra (Ezra 9), and
Nehemiah (Nehemiah 9).
God answered Daniel's prayer quickly (see study note on Daniel 9:19; see also Daniel 9:20–27).
