Notes

David praised God for his goodness in redeeming and establishing the nation of Israel (2 Samuel 7:23–24), not only for blessing David and his royal family (2 Samuel 7:18–21). His prayer speaks for the whole people, not just for himself.

David responded with prayer to God’s promise that his family would rule as kings for many generations. In his prayer, he repeatedly acknowledged that God alone is the true king and Sovereign Lord.

David was not happy just making a tent for the ark (2 Samuel 6:17). He wanted to build a house for God.
