But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of those who march to and fro, and never again will an oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch with My own eyes.

And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

And I will camp around My house as a guard against the one passing by and the one returning; and no oppressor will pass through them anymore, for now I look on with My own eyes!

Notes

This message reassured the Judeans that they should not fear their three main neighbors:

  • Syria (Aram),

  • the Phoenicians (Tyre and Sidon), and

  • the Philistines.

These neighbors were rivals of Judah and often tried to gain commercial and territorial advantages. God said their efforts would fail.
