Notes
Even when alone, the psalmist trusts the Lord, who is his life (see Psalms 9:9; 16:5; 27:13).
when he was in the cave: Compare Psalm 57:1.
The psalmist faces severe persecution, so he cries to the Lord, and the Lord will rescue him.
In this final group of psalms of David, psalms of praise and wisdom (Psalms 138–139, 145) form a frame around five psalms of lament (Psalms 140–144).
