Notes

Also known as fools, the wicked talk to themselves, think, scheme (Psalm 10:4, 6, 11), and make claims. However, because they ignore God’s revelation, they lack understanding (Psalms 14:1; 39:8; 53:1; 74:18, 22).

Paul uses phrases from the Greek translation of this passage in his description of the wickedness of all people (Romans 3:10–12).

This wisdom psalm includes elements of lament and prophetic speech. The ideals of Psalm 8 clash with foolish human attitudes and sinful actions. Except for verses 5–6, this psalm is similar to Psalm 53.
