Notes

the name of the LORD: God's personal name (Hebrew Yahweh; see Exodus 3:15) reveals who he is (his nature, character, and reputation). He is exalted at all times (now and forever) and in every place (from east to west).

This song of praise celebrates the greatness of the Lord's name and glory. God is exalted and glorious in heaven (Psalm 113:4). He also stoops down to care for the lowly and needy on earth (Psalm 113:5–9).

These psalms are called the Egyptian Hallel. Hallel means “praise.” Jewish people use these psalms during Passover, which began when God brought Israel out of Egypt in the exodus. The people recite Psalms 113–114 before the Passover meal, and Psalms 115–118 are recited afterward.

The word Hallelujah! is repeated throughout this group of psalms.
