Notes

Produces a crop: This probably refers to faithfully obeying the commands of Jesus (for example, Matthew 5:1–7:27; 28:20).

In the third major speech recorded by Matthew (see study note on Matthew 5:1–7:29), Jesus here recognized the separation of his followers from others (Matthew 13:14, 16). He began to reveal the secrets of the kingdom of heaven privately to them through parables.
