Notes

The instructions for the disciples' mission focused on what they should leave behind (bread …bag …money … second tunic). They were to travel with little and rely on Jewish kindness to strangers for food and a place to sleep at night (see Luke 22:35–37).

Jesus sent the disciples to preach and heal. During this mission, they memorized the teachings of Jesus by repeating them. This prepared them to later recall and share what Jesus did and taught (Luke 1:2).

The mission of Jesus and the misunderstanding of the disciples are prominent themes in this section.
