James son of Zebedee and his brother John … left their father Zebedee: Jesus later taught that his followers would do similar things (8:34–35; Matthew 10:37–39).

The call of the two pairs of brothers (Simon and Andrew, and James and John) came after they had already met Jesus earlier (John 1:35–42).
