Notes

  • Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! See Psalms 118:26; 148:1. Psalm 118 was one of the songs sung by travelers going to Jerusalem for the festivals (Psalms 113–118).

  • Jesus brought peace in heaven and glory in the highest. He makes peace with God and humans, but peace on earth is still to come (compare Luke 2:14; see 12:51–53; 19:41–44).

Jesus entered Jerusalem in triumph. This fulfilled Zechariah 9:9–10 and symbolically announced that he was the Messiah, the King of Israel.
