Notes

The first concern Jesus had for his disciples was that they would remain united with each other in the same way he is one with the Father.

Jesus prayed for his disciples, who must continue his work after his departure.

This chapter contains the longest prayer of Jesus. People often refer to it as the "high priestly prayer." The prayer shows the deepest concerns and purposes of Jesus.

This prayer concludes his last words that began at 13:31. Jesus expressed his own concerns to his Father (17:1–8). He then expressed concerns for the church and its future (17:9–26).
