This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths: ‘Where is the good way?’ Then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’

Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Thus says YHWH: “Stand along the pathways, and see; and ask for the old paths, ‘Where is this good way,’ and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. And they said, ‘We will not walk!’

Following God's ancient laws (Malachi 4:4) would bring peace to people's souls (compare Matthew 11:29).
The Lord urged the people to repent and warned them about the terrible consequences if they did not.
