Read Isaiah 18

Translations

Modern
At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD of Hosts—from a people tall and smooth-skinned, from a people widely feared, from a powerful nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers—to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD of Hosts.
Traditional
In that time shall the present be brought unto the Lord of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, the mount Zion.
Literal
At that time a gift will be brought to YHWH of Hosts from a people tall and smooth, and from a people feared from afar, a nation of strength and treading down, for whom its land the rivers divides; to the place of the name of YHWH of Hosts, to Mount Zion.
Latin
In tempore illo deferetur munus Domino exercituum a populo divulso et dilacerato, a populo terribili, post quem non fuit alius; a gente exspectante, exspectante et conculcata, cujus diripuerunt flumina terram ejus; ad locum nominis Domini exercituum, montem Sion.

Notes

Conquered or weaker nations often had to pay tribute to a dominant king in the region (see Isiah 16:1; 2 Kings 3:4–5). The Ethiopians brought gifts to honor the Lord for defeating the Assyrians (see also 2 Chronicles 32:23).

This section includes predictions of judgment against Damascus, Israel, Ethiopia, and Egypt. The scene shifts from the crisis in 734 BC (the alliance of Syria and Israel; see study note on Isaiah 7:1–25) to the Assyrian crisis in 701 BC (see Isaiah 36–37).
