I will be like the dew to Israel; he will blossom like the lily and take root like the cedars of Lebanon.

Notes

  • like the dew: In Israel's semi-desert climate, dew provided essential moisture for life (Genesis 27:28; Deuteronomy 33:28).

  • take root: When Israel remained faithful to their covenant with the Lord, they became solid and stable like the majestic cedars in Lebanon (Psalm 92:12).

Hosea describes the effect of God’s healing love on repentant Israel. God promises to provide the fertility that Israel had sought from the baals.

Destruction was not God's final message to his covenant people. Although judgment must happen, God's healing and restoring grace is stronger than human sin.
