They shall walk after the Lord: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.

Notes

Israel’s sin would not be the final word. God, in his holy love, would roar like a lion (see Amos 1:2; 3:8) to call his people home from exile in Babylon.

God grieved over Israel’s unfaithfulness. Even after all he had done for them, Israel had turned into a rebellious people. Justice required serious punishment, but the final decision about Israel’s future would come from God’s tender compassion for his people, not from an abstract rule.
