Notes

Now you will see: This means that God was about to act. He was not discouraged by the questions about his faithfulness, his power, or his character.

Instead, God looked ahead to the coming conflict. Different worldviews (ways of understanding life and reality) would confront each other.

Pharaoh believed that he was divine. However, he would become only an instrument in the hand of the one true God.

God renewed his promises. The offer of rescue emphasized the main question. Pharaoh asked: "Who is the LORD?" (5:2). While the Israelites needed rescue from slavery, their greater need was to know the Lord. The main purpose of God’s renewed promises was “you will know that I am the LORD your God” (6:7).
