Notes

other gods: This phrase does not mean that other gods truly exist. The Old Testament teaches that there is only one God, the Lord.

However, the surrounding nations worshiped other gods. The danger was that Israel might follow their practices and turn away from the Lord.

This section explains the conditions for receiving the covenant blessing, the types of blessings, and the curses that will occur if people ignore or disobey these rules (28:1–14; 28:15–68).
