That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the Lord thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose to place his name there.

…that you shall take some of the first of all the produce of the ground, which you shall bring from your land that YHWH your God is giving you, and you shall put it in the basket and go to the place where YHWH your God chooses for His Name to dwell there.

Deuteronomy 26:1–15

Under the covenant, God required his people to give him tribute every year, or even more often.

Because Israel was an agricultural society, God asked for offerings of animals, crops, or grain.

This tribute celebrated the great redemption of the Israelites during the exodus.
