Notes
We do not know the exact location of Beth-eked, but it was near Jenin.
Ahaziah’s relatives responded to Jehu, which led to their downfall. Jehu thought their connection to Ahaziah, and indirectly to Ahab's family through his daughter Athaliah, might give them a claim to Israel's throne. In this second series of executions, Jehu once more went beyond his orders to end Ahab’s dynasty.
The writer highlights two key events during the time Jehu was king:
Jehu killed everyone who might claim Joram’s throne (2 Kings 10:1–17), and
Jehu executed the priests of Baal (2 Kings 10:18–27).
