Notes

Although overwhelmed by his persecutors (Psalm 142:6), the psalmist seeks wisdom from the Lord.

when he was in the cave: Compare Psalm 57:1.

The psalmist faces severe persecution, so he cries to the Lord, and the Lord will rescue him.

In this final group of psalms of David, psalms of praise and wisdom (Psalms 138–139, 145) form a frame around five psalms of lament (Psalms 140–144).
