Notes

  • The psalmist prays for the renewal of God’s relationship with his people.

  • Jacob is another name for Israel (see Genesis 35:9–10).

This wisdom psalm includes elements of lament and prophetic speech. The ideals of Psalm 8 clash with foolish human attitudes and sinful actions. Except for verses 5–6, this psalm is similar to Psalm 53.
