Notes

  • plotting to revolt...become their king: Those who opposed rebuilding the temple used similar tactics (see Ezra 4).

  • At times in Israel's history, prophets helped establish a new king (compare 1 Samuel 9:16; 2 Kings 9).

After solving the financial crisis (see Nehemiah 5), the story shifts back to how those against rebuilding tried to scare or stop Nehemiah.
