Notes
God reveals his plans to his servants (Daniel 2:19–23; Amos 3:7), but the nations do not know. They are not aware of God's great plans or his actions behind the scenes for his people. The hopes and plans of the nations around Israel were in vain. The Lord's plans for his unique people will succeed, and he will rule the nations (Genesis 12:1–3; 15:12–21; Exodus 19:4–6; Isaiah 45:23; 66:23).
At the threshing floor, people beat and trampled grain to separate it from the chaff. Similarly, the nations will be crushed (Micah 4:13).
assembled against you: This refers first to the attack of Babylon against Jerusalem in 588–586 BC. At the same time, it also points to a future attack against a restored and ideal Jerusalem described in Micah 4:1–5 (compare Revelation 20:7–9).
This message accuses the evil leaders who harmed God's people. It contrasts them with a vision of God's kingdom and a righteous king's rule. After facing judgment and exile, a purified Israel would return and receive God's blessings.
