Notes

Freely you have received; freely give: While payment is not wrong (1 Corinthians 9:3–19; Galatians 6:6; 1 Timothy 5:17), Jesus encouraged the apostles to avoid appearing greedy (see Acts 8:20; 20:33).

By doing these things in the name and authority of Jesus, the apostles showed that Jesus is the Messiah (see 11:2–6).

Jesus expands his ministry (see Matthew 4:23–9:34) by sending his disciples to other people in Israel (10:5–6). The instructions Jesus gives his disciples (10:5–42) emphasizes missionary work and the opposition and challenges they will encounter.
