Notes

Gethsemane was dark, and most of the crowd sent to arrest Jesus did not know him personally (see John 18:7–8). Judas had given a sign by which he would identify Jesus. Judas called Jesus Rabbi and kissed him, a common form of greeting (1 Samuel 10:1; 2 Samuel 19:39; Luke 7:45).
