Zechariah asked for a tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed.

Notes

they made signs: This was because Zechariah was not able to speak or hear (see study note on 1:20). Zechariah showed his faith and obedience to God by naming the child John. As a result, God restored his voice and hearing.
