Notes
Beth-jeshimoth was where Israel camped in the plains of Moab (Numbers 33:49).
Moses viewed the promised land from Mount Pisgah (Deuteronomy 34:1).
This chapter summarizes Israel's victories on both sides of the Jordan River. It then moves to Joshua distributing the land of Canaan among the tribes of Israel (chapter 13).
This second major section of the book records Joshua's southern and northern campaigns against two coalitions of kings from Canaan. Joshua's victories allowed Israel to settle the hill country from Galilee in the north to the Negev in the south.
