Notes

Rezin's enemies were the Assyrians (Isaiah 7:4, 17; 8:4). Rezin was the king of Syria (see Isaiah 7).

This prophecy of judgment was against the northern kingdom of Israel. Even though God warned that the Assyrians would defeat them (Isaiah 7–8), the people of Samaria were foolishly confident they could survive the siege.

These prophecies occurred when Assyria rose to power. Syria and Israel formed an alliance against Judah (Isaiah 7:1–2; see 2 Kings 16:5). God used Assyria as a tool to punish Syria, Israel, and Judah (Isaiah 7–10).
