One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD,’ another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ and will take the name of Israel.”

One shall say, I am the Lord’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

Notes

The promise of salvation gave Israel a future. Even though the people had sinned, God would still use them to bless the next generation (Isaiah 44:3).

The past had been dark because of their sin (see Isaiah 43:22–28). But the future would be different. God would begin a new time of blessing. His Spirit would change the people and make this new beginning possible.
