Notes

show this same diligence (literally show the same eager commitment): Loving other believers is a key sign of true Christian faith (James 2:15–16; 1 John 3:16–20). By being diligent and committed, they can be sure of their hope in Christ. Perseverance brings assurance of salvation.

After giving a strong warning to his hearers (Hebrews 6:4–8), the author now softens it by calling them beloved. He shows confidence in them and offers more encouragement.

After starting to talk about the role of Jesus as high priest (Hebrews 5:1–10), the author addresses the audience with several encouragements (5:11–6:20). This change in the sermon or speech aimed to capture the listeners' attention.
