Notes

Jacob knew who was with him (32:30). The request was his attempt to regain some control. God would not reveal his name, which cannot be had on demand.

Jacob went back to the land God promised him. Before this, God met, injured, and blessed him. God also changed his name to Israel. This event was a significant turning point for Jacob.
