Notes
Paul resolved in the Spirit: He was probably troubled by what he heard about Corinth (see 1 Corinthians Book Introduction). Instead of going right away, he sent Timothy. Timothy carried a letter, 1 Corinthians, from Paul to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 4:17; 16:10–11). Paul later traveled to Macedonia and Achaia (Acts 20:1–3).
“I must see Rome as well”: Paul, perhaps inspired by his successful strategy, wanted to share the gospel in the world's most important city (see study note on 16:8).
