Notes
from all … enemies: See Deuteronomy 12:9–10; 1 Kings 5:4; 8:56. David's peace was brief because he soon went back to war (see 2 Samuel 8:1–18).
If God had only a tent while David had a palace, people might think David was the true king instead of God. So, David planned to build a temple for God.
David was not happy just making a tent for the ark (2 Samuel 6:17). He wanted to build a house for God.
