Even though Jehu ended Baal worship in Israel, he continued the worship of gold calves at Bethel and Dan. This practice was started by Jeroboam I. It remained part of the state religion (1 Kings 12:28–30). Eventually, it contributed to the fall of the northern kingdom (2 Kings 17:21–23).
