Notes

God's law stated that the fat from a sacrificial animal belonged to the Lord. The priests had to burn the fat on the altar before anything else could be done with the animal (Leviticus 3:3–17).

The priests were meant to take their share of the meat only after it was boiled (see Numbers 6:19). Eli’s sons ignored God's rules (1 Samuel 2:13–14, 17).
