Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the LORD do what is good in His sight.”

Notes

  • Joab understood that the battle aimed to protect the people and cities of Israel from invasion, not to gain more land (see 1 Chronicles 19:8).

  • Joab trusted God, believing the outcome relied on the Lord's guidance.

The enemy armies set up their battle lines carefully. The Ammonites positioned themselves so that the city of Medeba could be a safe place. Meanwhile, the Israelites faced a second attack from the Arameans. Joab split his forces to fight on both sides from a central gathering point.
