Notes
The psalmist shows confidence and hope in the Lord's presence. Living in faith means waiting patiently, knowing the Lord is good. This life is not always easy for the faithful (Psalm 42:2–3; 43:5), but their future is secure (37:9; 130:7; see 9:18).
This psalm combines two types—a psalm of confidence (Psalm 27:1–6) and an individual lament (27:7–14)—united by the theme of longing for the Lord's presence. The psalmist focuses on the Lord, making his own circumstances less important. The psalmist shows strong faith by being open to the Lord's guidance, timing, and priorities.
These psalms develop the importance of:
God's care as a shepherd (Psalms 23:1; 28:9),
God's guidance (Psalms 23:2–3; 25:5; 27:11),
God's goodness (Psalms 23:6; 25:7–8; 27:13), and
living in his house (Psalms 23:6; 26:8; 27:4, 8).
