  1. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
  2. Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
  3. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
  4. Like ravenous dogs, they are never satisfied. They are shepherds with no discernment; they all turn to their own way, each one seeking his own gain:
  5. “Come, let me get the wine, let us imbibe the strong drink, and tomorrow will be like today, only far better!”
  6. For at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, misled, and enslaved to all sorts of desires and pleasures—living in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
  7. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter.
  8. Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat.
  9. For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
  10. It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
  11. In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.
  12. But look, there is joy and gladness, butchering of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”
