Notes

Justice characterizes God’s rule, as it should characterize the king’s administration.

  • The king is like a god among humans. God anointed him, gave him a powerful throne, and he delivers justice as he rules eternally.

  • The writer of Hebrews uses Psalm 45:6–7 to describe Jesus, arguing that the Son is greater than the angels (Hebrews 1:8–9).

This psalm celebrates a royal wedding; it might have been sung on many occasions and not just at one wedding. As God’s representative, the king carried the responsibility of dispensing justice and maintaining order in God’s world (see Psalm 2).
