…that Sanballat sent, and Geshem, to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together among the villages on the plain of Ono.” And they were thinking to do to me harm.

Notes

The plain of Ono, located near Lod (Ezra 2:33), was likely a neutral site west of Jerusalem. Nehemiah would have been unprotected there.

After solving the financial crisis (see Nehemiah 5), the story shifts back to how those against rebuilding tried to scare or stop Nehemiah.
