Notes

Mark states that they crucified Jesus at the third hour, which is nine o'clock in the morning. John 19:14 mentions the time as around the sixth hour, or noon. These are approximate times. They would often describe events in the late morning as happening around the third hour (Matthew 20:3; Acts 2:15) or sixth hour (Mark 15:33; Matthew 20:5; 27:45; Luke 23:44; John 4:6; 19:14; Acts 10:9).

The crucifixion story is one of the most historically reliable events from ancient history. Why would the early church invent a story where its central figure died as a criminal? This story was offensive to Jews and seemed ridiculous to non-Jews (1 Corinthians 1:23).
