Notes

Mark uses the invitation of Jesus, Come, follow Me (1:20; 8:34) and the repeated idea of people following him (1:18; 2:14–15; 3:7; 5:24) to describe what it means to be his disciple (see “Following Jesus” Theme Note).

The call of the two pairs of brothers (Simon and Andrew, and James and John) came after they had already met Jesus earlier (John 1:35–42).
